After becoming step by step acquainted with the ideas of special
relativity, relativistic kinematics and time dilatation, the
user is able to apply these laws to the decay of instable particles.
17- to 18-year old students in advanced physics courses are
led in few hours to measure themselves the mean lifetime of
the K0 particle in the realistic environment of the BaBar experiment
at SLAC, California. The package can be used either by a teacher
for demonstration purposes in a whole class situation, or on
an individual / small group basis.
In order to run this program from
your hard disk or from a CD please save the
Java policy file as ".java.policy" to your home directory.
( For Windows2000/XP this should be "C:\Documents and Settings\YOURUSERNAME",
"C:\Winnt\Profiles\username"on Windows NT,
"C:\Windows" on singler-user on Windows 95 and 98 systems,
"C:\Windows\Profiles\username" on multiuser Windows 95 and 98 systems,
on Unix and Linux it is just "~". )
Otherwise the java applets won't work.
