Yıldız Technical University was founded in 1911 under the name Conductor Mekteb-i Âlîsi, based on the curriculum of the "Ecol De Conducteur" in Paris to meet the needs of "Science Officers" (formerly called conductors, now called technicians). Today, the school has 2 campuses, one in Beşiktaş Yıldız and one in Esenler Davutpaşa. The idle Ayazağa campus is in the process of reconstruction. Yıldız and Davutpaşa campuses have been providing education since the Ottoman period.
