Research and Teaching
CIEMAT, created in 1951, is a public research institute active in energy and environment research, as well as in state-of-the-art technology and basic research.
The Particle Physics Division at CIEMAT gave birth to experimental high energy physics in Spain in the 1960's. We are currently involved in the following experiments: CMS at CERN's LHC, CDF at Fermilab's Tevatron, Double Chooz, CALICE and ArDM.
The Astroparticle Physics Division was created a decade ago, currently participating in the AMS, DES, PAU, CTA, MAGIC and Starbust Galaxies (GEFE) experiments
Our institute offers students the possibility of making their Ph.D. theses in a wide range of state-of-the-art research topics, both in particle and astroparticle physics.
In 2015 the Particle and Astroparticle Physics Deptartment at CIEMAT
was awarded the Research Excellence Prize Maria de Maeztu.
