Research & Teaching

Birzeit University (BZU) is the first university in Palestine to serve the Palestinian people living under Israeli military occupation in the West Bank and Gaza since 1967. Birzeit became a member of the International Association of Universities in 1977. Currently, the University campus is being expanded so that it can meet the growing needs of higher education in the Palestinian society.

The Department of Physics at Birzeit University provides an exciting environment for the training of both graduate and undergraduate students. In addition to the introductory courses in physics that serve students in science and engineering majors, the Department of Physics also offers several academic courses and programs leading to Bachelor and Master Degrees in various disciplines in physics, electronics, mathematics and computer sciences. The graduate program provides research opportunities in various fields including atomic and molecular physics, computational physics, biophysics and nuclear and high energy physics.

In addition to regular courses, the Department of Physics hosts seminars and public lectures in the field of particle physics Physics of the 21st century delivered by key figures in this field such as professors John Ellis and Lyn Evans . Some of the Physics department graduates participated in the CERN Summer Program over the past few years and now working in prestigious research institutes in Europe with research groups such as ATLAS.
