Research & Teaching

The main scientific avtivities of Physics Department are theoretical and experimental studies in solid state physics, soft matter, atomic and molecular optics, and quantum optics. Very well equipped laboratories of spectroscopy and ultrafast optical spectroscopy have enormous potential.
In recent years the department has successfully developed new directions of research, in particular mesoscopics physics, quantum information technology and biophysics. The Department cooperates with many research centers worldwide. Professors and assistant professors of our Faculty, can be meet in many countries in Europe, the United States and Japan.

The teaching offer of Physics Department is very attractive. Currently, at three fields of study: Physics, Acoustics, and Astronomy, and at ten specialities are conducted full-time and part-time for bachelor and master degrees studies. Many of the specialities offered are unique in the country, which means that each year the number of candidates exceeds the number of offered places. Currently there are more than 1,500 full-time students and more than 250 part-time students at the Faculty. Each year, within the LLP-Erasmusi, about 40 our students take (annual or semester) courses at the best European universities.

Outreach
  • Cyclical open lectures for high school students.
  • Science and Arts Festival in Poznan.
  • National Festivals "Science on Stage". The next, 4th edition of "Science on Stage", will be held on September 24-25, 2010, with 3 categories:
    • demos of effects related to power production,
    • multimedia show related to different problems with standard and new methods of power production and energy consumption.
    • artistic performances showing releations between physics and natural sciences with problems of power production (theatre performances, photography, drawings/paintings, poems etc.)
