Research & Teaching
The Physics Department of the University of
Calabria, located in the beautiful Campus of
Arcavacata, carries out research activities in Astrophysics, Biomedical
Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Geophysics, Molecular Biophysics,
Physics and Applications of Soft Matter, Physics of Fundamental Interactions,
Surface Electron Spectroscopy.
It hosts since 1988 the Unit of Cosenza of the
Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN),
whose activities include Particle Physics with Accelerators, Theoretical
Physics, Research And Development.
The Experimental Particle Physics Group participates in the ZEUS experiment at
HERA, the ATLAS experiment at LHC and the KLOE experiment at the DAFNE
collider (Frascati, Italy). It is also involved in the upgrade of parts of the
ATLAS detectors and in the development of hadronic calorimeter modules based
on the Dual Readout Method.
The Theory Group studies QCD in the high-energy limit and hadron
phenomenology, lattice QCD and other lattice gauge theories and
spin models, field theory of correlated devices, integrable models.
The Physics Department houses the Data Center ReCaS of the INFN Unit
of Cosenza, a large HPC infrastructure for the analysis of experimental
data from the LHC and other colliders.
Studying physics in Cosenza offers several possibilities: a three-year course
in Physics for the first-level degree, a two-year course in Physics for
the master degree, a three-year PhD course organized in several curricula
reflecting the rich structure of research activities of the Department
of Physics.
