Research & Teaching
The IKP participates in diverse large-scale research projects. It covers the field of ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions for the study of a new state of matter, the quark-gluon plasma, with ALICE (LHC) and CBM (FAIR, GSI), the direct measurement of the neutrino mass neutrino with KATRIN and the search for dark matter with the XENON experiment. The study of the strong interaction is (besides in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions) also pursued in the experiments ANKE and WASA at COSY and in the future with proton-antiproton annihilations at PANDA (FAIR).
Lectures and experimental exercises at the IKP cover a wide range of subjects in experimental nuclear, particle and astroparticle physics and their practical applications. In collaboration with the department of theoretical physics, joint seminars on the research about the fundamental structure of matter and forces in the Universe are held regularly.
