Research at the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Bonn University focusses on Subatomic Physics, Condensed Matter, Applied Optics, Theoretical Physics, Astronomy, and Astrophysics.

At the Institute of Physics the experimental research groups develop detectors and microelectronics both for particle physics and medical applications, and investigate together with the theoretical physics the fundamental structure of matter and forces in our universe.

The "Bonn-Cologne Graduate School of Physics and Astronomy" is a joint Honors Program of graduate studies between the Universities of Bonn and Cologne and is funded by the German Excellence Initiative.
