Research & Teaching

The Centre for particle physics of Marseille (CPPM) is one of the laboratories of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics and Particle Physics (IN2P3) of CNRS, which gathers the resources of the French particle physics community. The laboratory is also managed by Aix-Marseille université. The lab is located on the Marseille Luminy campus and houses about a hundred permanent staff, twenty Ph.D. students, visiting scholars and many trainees.
The main role of the laboratory is fundamental research in particle physics (elementary components of matter and their interactions with the ATLAS and LHCb experiments at the LHC), in astroparticle physics (observation of elementary particles in the Universe with the Antares, MEUST and CTA experiments) and in observational cosmology (to understand the Universe behaviour through the observation and study of supernovas and other probes with the BOSS, LSST and Euclid experiments).
The experimental stakes of our research require the implementation of advanced techniques in electronics, data processing and instrumentation. This leads us to develop interdisciplinary projects with industrial companies and other regional, national and international laboratories. Examples are bio-medical imaging (imXgam) and deep-sea environmental studies and connectivity.
